Committee News

A club is only as strong as its members! The support of club members is not only a requirement of increasing the strength of any club – but a sign of growth. Different people coming together to share their talents and their expertise is invaluable if one is to grow- not only as a club- but also as individuals dedicated to their breed.

Judges and Public Education
Members will be given an opportunity to work in one of two areas (or both areas if you so choose). If you choose the Judges' Education and Mentoring area, your focus will be aimed at revising and updating the USNMC Commentary portion of the breed Standard. Our presenters will be able to utilize this material as one of the Components used for the AKC Judges' Education Seminars. Mentoring …Public education is our second focal point. You will be able to help create a guide of resources on various topics regarding the Neapolitan Mastiff. Subject areas such as health, responsible ownership, training, puppy care, etc are some of the key areas that have been started. If you are interested in joining the Judges’ Committee, contact Sharon Costello at sharonmcostello49@hotmail.com or call 908-454-8100. If you would like to work on Public Education Committee, contact the current Board Secretary.

Health Committee
The USNMC Health Committee is an area for the breeder and the pet owner alike. Our objective is to educate and communicate as much information about the Neapolitan Mastiff as possible. In doing so, we will help to identify health concerns and determine their impact on the breed. These can be genetic problems, breed specific problems, or general concerns. We need the participation of pet owners, breeders and veterinarians. If you are interested in helping out or have ideas that would be of interest, please contact Dr. Pierluigi Scalia at plscalia@gmail.com

Ethics Committee
The Code of Ethics is established in accordance with the objectives of the United States Neapolitan Mastiff Club as set forth in Article I, Section 2 of the Club Constitution and shall serve as a guideline for a minimum standard of excellence in the ownership, breeding, selling and exhibiting of Neapolitan Mastiffs by all Club members.

The purpose of the Ethics Committee is to encourage the use of the Club's Code of Ethics which promotes the highest professional standards for members of the USNMC as well as educating members and the general public in the club's code, ensuring that all clauses contained in it are required and reasonable and maintaining the code of ethics through periodic review.

Alleged violators of the Code of Ethics will be subject to discipline under Article VI of the Bylaws by the Board of Directors. Complaints regarding alleged violations of the Code of Ethics must be formally filed in duplicate with the Secretary and accompanied by a $50.00 check which will be refunded should the allegations not be entertained by the Board of Directors.

If you are interested in joining this panel contact Shani Stewart-Robbins at usnmcethics@comcast.net or call 253-223-3168

Neogram

The NeoGram is the parent club’s magazine that is sent to its members quarterly. The magazine is a source of information on the club, health, new champions, legislative articles and other articles of interest. The editor seeks information and advertisements for each issue. This is an area that needs each and every members’ assistance! Feel free to write an article on any Neapolitan related topic and send to the editor for consideration. Perhaps “proofreading” is your strongpoint? The Neogram’s advertising prices are more than reasonable – so perhaps if you don’t want to write, you would wish to contribute an ad. Each Neogram issue lists the current pricing. If you wish to contribute to the Neogram and/or join this committee, contact the editor, Heather Welty, at hwelty112@comcast.net.

Website
This is an area where communication really comes through to YOU, the members of the USNMC. As we all have different levels of interest and expertise in the “net”, our website should be constantly up to date as a reference tool for our club members and for those interested in our breed. The website is the perfect place to check on anti-dog legislation. If you have an article of interest, news of a local show where Neos will be attending, or news of proposed local legislation – contact the Board Secretary.

By-Laws Review Committee
Bylaws contain the basic framework for the structure and function of the UNMC. This committee will give its members the opportunity to review and propose changes and amendments to the current bylaws if and when needed. This committee will meet on an as needed basis.

Legislation committee
The legislation committee will work on posting legislation that threatens our ability to own, breed, and to compete with and show our dogs. We will need to monitor legislation at all jurisdictional levels from townships, municipalities, counties, states to the federal level. AKC's Legislation Department and the AKC website are good resources for learning what legislation is being proposed where and how to fight it. It is critical that the dog fancy be on top of any threatening legislation. The animal rights people are determined and well financed in their efforts to take our dogs away and to meet their goal of "One generation and out: spay and neuter until there are none." If you are interested in being a member of this committee contact Rita Biddle at RITABIDDLE@aol.com.

Local Clubs
The growth of local clubs throughout the United States is a must. AKC has definite specifications for new clubs and AKC offers much assistance in this process. They will send a packet of needed information on how to start a local club. They even have “live” people that will guide you through the process. Board members are here to assist local clubs and their representatives. Along with the AKC, we will help guide clubs thru the process of becoming an AKC recognized club and a USNMC affiliated club. These tasks can seem daunting to beginning clubs and it's good to know someone is here to help!
